Write a Comprehensive
QA Protocol
CLIA and certain states require laboratories
performing any testing beyond waived methods to have and
implement a comprehensive QA program. Knapp • Frazer
Consulting's turnkey QA program has been repeatedly inspected
by regulatory and accrediting agencies and has received complements
for its completeness. Perhaps more importantly, clients find
the program easy to weave into everyday laboratory operations
and effective in improving lab services.
Oversee Proficiency Testing
Especially
in the POL setting, PT can be seen as a complex and mysterious
beast. Knapp·Frazer
consultants take staff through the lab's first PT experience,
providing guidance and building confidence every step of the
way. Our checklists for PT performance and for troubleshooting
problems prompt staff members through each task and provide
documentation for the next inspection. Best of all, PT helps
to ensure that patient results are as accurate as test system
capabilities.
Implement Daily Quality Control
All
clinical laboratory testing benefits from quality control.
QC is designed to check reagent preparation and potency,
pipetting accuracy, time and temperature variations, and
a host of other test system variables. Use QC to fine-tune
your laboratory data. Catch potential problems before they
affect patient results.
Review QC Data and Recommend Action
Your
consultant will review all QC data generated by your laboratory
on a monthly basis, detect and monitor shifts and trends,
and recommend appropriate corrective action, as necessary.

Conduct and Document
QA Meetings
Each site visit by a Knapp • Frazer consultant
is, in essence, a QA meeting. Your consultant will answer
staff questions, provide recommendations and suggestions
to improve the testing process, and document findings in
a monthly summary report. You will also be given the means
to document staff QA meetings held between consultant site
visits.
